Day 9: My Zayd
It’s hard to believe you’ll be in Middle School in September. I know you’re nervous about starting a new school. Believe me sweetheart, you will do great, make lots of new friends, and leave your magic there too. There’s not a person you meet that you don’t touch. From toddlers to elders, you have such a special way of connecting with people and making everyone feel happy in your company. It’s God’s gift to you. This week you found your passion; and I aged a million years. I knew you’d love the Go-Kart racing camp, and I knew you’d be a natural at it – after all you’ve loved everything to do with cars since the day you were born. To see you race in your yellow uniform and helmet and careen those corners with such precision and focus and skill, made me so proud -- and so terrified. I had to keep both hands on my heart to keep it from pulsing out of my chest. But I’ve never seen your eyes light up so much. “This is my thing Mama, this is what I can be really good at.”When you were little, we would lie in bed and find the furthest place on the globe and say, “I love you all the way to Vanuatu and back”. Last night, I said to you, “You’re the best boy in the whole world.” Now that you’re 11 and have an opinion about everything, you said, “Well Mom, objectively speaking, there probably are better boys than me.”No, sweetheart, you are the best boy in the whole world, and I love you to Vanuatu and back times a gazillion.Day 9, Dua 9: Please keep my Zaydu safe and smiling, and always knowing how much he’s loved.
