Day 10: Only Connect
O mankind! Lo! We have created you male and female, and have made you nations and tribes that ye may know one another. Lo! the noblest of you, in the sight of Allah, is the best in conduct. Quran, Surah al-Hujurat (49:13)
Guest blogger: SaanyaToday I helped organize an iftaar for an interfaith youth group that I co-lead with Luke. This is a new group that we initiated this summer in which Christian, Jewish and Muslim teens get together to do service. Earlier this summer, we prepared and served dinner at Cavalry Women's Shelter in Washington DC. On September 11th, we're doing the Unity Walk, and will have a chance to visit each others houses of worship, together. During Ramadan, we thought it would be a great idea to break fast together. During the iftaar we hope to share what this holy month is all about, discuss why we fast and the values that it teaches us, share some typical foods from our countries, and connect over similarities and differences in our faiths. We also hope to discuss other service projects for the year -- such as a 5K walk to raise awareness and funds for a good cause, working at a farm to pick fruit and vegetables for a food bank, or even an international service trip. Our faiths have a lot in common -- the most important of which is service to others. Day 10: Deed 10: Planning an interfaith iftaar.
