(s)hero!

#humanKINDbySalma: Anabel is one of my daughter Saanya's best friends. They went to NYU together, and traveled through India together. She studied nursing at NYU; it's all she's ever wanted to do her entire life, help heal people. Saanya would always tell me that Anabel is the kindest, gentlest person she knows. We got to know her too, and it's true. Anabel worked day and night training to be a nurse while in college. She's working as a nurse now in South Carolina, dealing with Covid patients. Soon she arrives in NYC because they needed more nurses and she volunteered to help. Because that’s who she is. She is the hero we should all be hailing. But when she got her stimulus check, she decided, quietly, without even mentioning it to Saanya, to donate half of it to KindWorks - she gave $600 to KindWorks for us to use to help others, when she herself is on the frontline; when she, as a new graduate with expenses and loans, can certainly use the extra funds. I can not tell you how humbled and floored I am by this. A few weeks ago, Anabel asked Saanya if @dokindworks worked with the undocumented and with refugees, two issues important to her. Saanya told her about our border project and our apartment set ups. Anabel and I are Facebook friends and she sees the stories I post about our work. That's all she needed to know to trust us with what is so rightfully hers. THIS young woman is who gives me hope right now. I am truly speechless
