Day One: Uttarakhand

Saanya and I just returned from an incredible trip to India.  We traveled to four cities, had life-changing experiences, were engulfed by warm hospitality Subcontinent style, and returned home safely, even our medicine pouch in tact.  Allah ka shukr. But the day we arrived, devastating floods ravaged Uttarakhand in the North. Each day we followed the tragedy unfold.  The number of dead rising, the number of missing rising further, those who survived suffering from lack of help, resources. Some think the number may even top 10,000 dead. Each one, a son, a daughter, a mother, a father. So many children left orphaned. One little girl, two years old, captured the media’s attention. Her two legs bandaged, clutching her doll, she keeps crying for ‘mama’ for ‘papa’.  Devastating. On this first day of Ramadan, we pray for all those affected by the floods in Uttarakhand, especially those left orphaned.  Dear God, please give them strength, please ease their suffering, please protect them, dear God please protect them, and help them heal. Ameen.Day One, Dua One:  For all those suffering in Uttarakhand
